Technology Choices
In addition to traditional conventional well pumps, Grundfos pioneered the concept of constant pressure pumping systems, adding increased levels of comfort and value to all water well owners.
Constant Pressure Pump System
The Grundfos SQE constant pressure system consists of a pump and motor which reside in the well and is controlled by the CU301 User Interface panel conveniently located in the home. Alternatively, the CU301 can be located outdoors wherever the homeowner finds it most convenient.
Unlike most conventional well pumps, the SQE comes in a lightweight, 3” diameter, which allows for easy installation in small bore wells or older wells that no longer accept a traditional 4” pump. SQE pumps are available in both 115VAC and 230VAC versions and come in a full range of performance ratings guaranteed to match your exact needs. Never again buy too much or too little of a pump.
Benefits of Constant Pressure
With constant pressure pumping systems, water pressure will always remain steady and constant regardless of how many family members are consuming water. As more faucets are opened, the pump automatically increases its speed, maintaining the chosen pressure at any flow rate. The homeowner benefits both in quality of life and from increased home value.
Some of the immediate benefits of constant pressure pumps include:
• Comfort of city-like water pressure
• Push button selection of desired pressure
• No more wimpy showers
• Turbo-charged lawn irrigation
• Multiple built-in diagnostics to prevent damage to the pump
• Uses a space saving and low-cost diaphragm tank
How does it work?
“Conventional pumps” run at a fixed, unchanging speed, operating only in an ON/OFF mode, whereas the Grundfos SQE constant pressure pump is uniquely designed with an intelligent built-in variable speed motor which can speed up or slow down—depending upon the amount of water consumed.
As more water is required, the pump will increase its speed; as less water is required, it will slow down. This allows the homeowner to comfortably use, for example, the shower, washing machine and irrigation sprinklers all at the same time, and, unlike conventional pumps, there will be no loss of water pressure.
Conventional SP Pump System
Traditional systems utilize pumps that operate at two speeds only–ON and OFF. The ON/OFF operation is controlled by a pressure switch that kicks the pump on, typically when pressure reaches 40 psi, and turns it off when pressure reaches 60 psi. Thus, the end user is exposed to a 20 psi range of fluctuating water pressure that is usually quite noticeable (especially when taking a shower).
In many instances, the pump is not even running while the homeowner is consuming water. Its job is essentially to keep the pressure tank full; the pump fills the tank up to a pressure of 60 psi and then shuts off. Meanwhile, the homeowner may take a shower and drain the tank until pressure reaches 40 psi, when the pump kicks back on, refilling the tank and shutting off. These cycles of filling and draining the tank repeat. The size of the tank and the amount of water consumed determines the length of the cycles. A larger tank produces longer cycles.
Since the pump runs at full speed when pumping, this system is like driving your car with the accelerator floored for 30 seconds, then coasting for 30 seconds, then repeating.
DWC Well Pumps
In addition to Grundfos pumps, Duff offers the DWC brand conventional submersible well pump. Made in entirely in the USA, this pump offers superior performance and exceptional resistance to abrasives, due to its unique floating stack design. Other highlights include:
- Precision machined, cast 304 stainless steel discharge head with a built-in check valve and cast rope loop.
- Enclosed urethane bearing, mounted in the polycarbonate top diffuser, which offers excellent resistance to abrasives.
- Injection molded polycarbonate diffuser plates for smoothness and high efficiency with high-impact resistance.
- Glass-reinforced Noryl impellers for high strength and optimal abrasion resistance without sacrificing smoothness.
- Corrosion and abrasion resistant stamped 304 stainless steel bowls.
- Heavy duty 304 stainless steel, cold drawn, hex shaft, produced to rigid standards of straightness and precise length.
- 304 Stainless steel shaft coupling, secured to the pump shaft for superior corrosion resistance.
- Thick wall, 304 stainless steel seamless pump housing accurately aligning the entire assembly while eliminating deterioration from water conditions or electrolysis.
- Precision machined, cast 304 stainless steel motor bracket and 304 stainless steel intake screen.
- A 304 stainless steel cable guard to protect motor leads from abrasion and cutting.
Environmental Well Pumps & Motors
For environmental applications–where the pump and motor must withstand nasty, corrosive conditions–such as well purging, remediation and testing, proper selection of equipment is essential. We will help you find the right combination of pump, motor and leads so you can get the job done.
The Grundfos Redi-Flo3 SQE-NE well pump is ideal for the removal of polluted groundwater in wells at least 3″ in diameter. Users have the capability to change the pump performance while the pump is installed in the well. The optional CU 300 Status Box and MI301 Remote communicate with the pump’s integrated electronics through the standard power leads. Systems are available for portable or dedicated pumping needs.
Typical applications include: environmental remediation, leachate extraction, total fluids recovery, tank-to-tank transfer, and sampling.
Grundfos Redi-Flo4 well pumps are constructed entirely of two materials: virgin PTFE and 316 stainless steel; they are perfectly designed to handle the rigors of contaminated groundwater pumping. They are ideal for sampling and continuous operation in remediation applications. Grundfos Redi-Flo4 environmental submersibles meet EPA guidelines for environmental equipment and have been proven through extensive use in the field to be the industry choice. These pumps provide efficient purging/remediation to depths up to 524 feet, and flow rates up to 45 gpm.
At Duff, we specialize in custom motor leads for Franklin Electric and Grundfos motors.
The continuous motor leads allow the motor to be installed without making an underwater splice. Because of the harsh nature of many environmental remediation sites, continuous motor leads come in a variety of chemical- and heat-resistant materials such as TEFLON®, CPE/XLPE, Hi-Lo (Santoprene), SOOW and PVC. These motor leads can be manufactured to the specific depth of the well and many are in stock in 25′ increments. If you’re looking for something special, just let us know!
